'Absolutely first rate ... with a fantastic sense of style'
Wessex Baroque was founded by Jane Norman (violin) and Jan Spencer (bass viol) out of a passion for early English music. They are fortunate to have David Miller (lute) as their continuo player and soloist. David has a long-standing association with the South West through his teaching at Dartington Summer School, and participation in his continuo class is arguably the best way to spend a summer's day in Devon.
Repertoire includes the music of Dowland, Lawes, Locke, Purcell, Arne, Boyce and Linley. Programmes often involve local singers with international reputations such as Lorna Anderson (soprano) and Charles Daniels (tenor) and well-known period instrumentalists such as Hazel Brooks (violin) Gail Hennessy and Mark Baigent (oboes) and Martin Feinstein (flute).
Wessex Baroque can also provide a high quality professional ensemble to accompany choirs based in Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Hampshire and Cornwall; for more details see What we do
